TEREZIN Concentration Camp & Village of LIDICE

This is a copper sculpture of the children of Lidice. Nearly the entire village was massacred after a letter to a  girlfriend was incorrectly interpretated. The Germans thought someone from this small community had a connection to the assassination of Reinhard Hedrich. The entire village was burned down and leveled. The men, 15 years and older were shot and the women and children were taken to concentration camps. The children were then gassed in a truck on the way to the concentration camp. It is a very somber and heart breaking tour. One man by the last name of POSPISIL, my mother's maiden name, was in the hospital during the attack. When he returned home, he too was murdered.

Karen & Mike opted for an American burger for lunch today. Mike & Jan, our tour guide had pork & potato dumplings. Mike ordered a side salad and it consisted of red & yellow peppers, cucumbers, and cheese. He was surprised there was NO lettuce. The food has been delicious!

Jan is one of our tour guides. We always order PIVO....CZECH word for BEER!

Another difficult place to visit. TEREZIN, a concentration camp with horrendous conditions.  Many of the Jewish people were then sent on to Auschwitz to the gas chambers.

This tunnel is located in the small fortress in TEREZIN. It had  been used as a prison.  The Germans took it over during WWII and used it as not only a prison, but a place to keep dissidents. The tunnels were used by guards and was over 500 meters long. Our guide first asked if any of us were claustrophobic as it was a bit narrow, with many twists and turns. We  were all ALONE for a portion of it because we walked slower than the others! It was a little unsettling!
